COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
Sew Blessed
This growth group is designed for anyone interested in learning to sew or improving their sewing skills. Participants will practice basic hand-stitching techniques and gain confidence with their skills and potentially using a sewing machine. No prior experience is needed, just a willingness to create and enjoy the process.
Black Presence in the Bible
Part I. "The Black Presence in the Bible" will offer a dynamic review of thorough research performed by Rev. Dr. Walter Arthur McCray revealed in his renowned publication "The Black Presence in the Bible." During this study we will offer sound biblical evidence which identifies nations and individuals recorded in the Bible and specifically recognized as people of African ancestry.
Part II. "Black Perspectives on the Israeli/Palestinian Conflict" will be offered for 2 weeks as a supplement to The Black Presence in the Bible. This section of our study is designed to introduce class participants to several topics including: (1) the history of the Jewish and Palestinian conflict, 1880-2023; and (2) the competing solidarities/rationales of African Americans regarding their support of Israelis as the chosen people of the Old Testament and their contemporaneous identification with the oppression of the Palestinian people who also claim Palestine as their ancient homeland.
Equipping the Saints VI
This Growth Group focuses on the Apostle Paul’s Epistle to the Romans, written from Corinth in anticipation of his visit, which is considered to be the most complete exposition in the New Testament of the central truths of Christianity. The Epistle was intended to communicate the great doctrines of grace, the basis of Paul’s ministry. This Growth Group is for any serious explorer of scripture. Diversity of age groups is welcome to enhance the depth of the exploration. The texts are approached through a dialogical exploration based on a model of inquiry/exegesis that forces the explorer to struggle with the text and to critically analyze the text, formulating the results of the God conversation that takes place in that analysis.
